History of the Margie House
Esther House, a transitional
housing facility for female ex-offenders, opened in
Cincinnati in January 1998 under the direction of Diane
Lodi. Shortly afterwards Diane's sister-in-law, Margie
Williams, asked her when a similar house could be opened
in Pittsburgh. that sincere question was to lay dormant
for three years.
On March 29, 2001 Margie and a
friend were taking a walk in South Park (in Pittsburgh).
A car behind them suddenly careened out of control,
taking five lives in a few short minutes. In God's
sovereignty, He chose to take Margie home to be with Him
at that time.
In the following months,
Diane's thoughts would wander back to the conversation
with Margie regarding an "Esther House" for Pittsburgh.
Through God's leading and Diane's efforts, Margie's
desire began to take root in the hearts' of others. In
July of 2001 work began to make Margie's desire a
reality.
Through monthly newsletters and
fundraising events, interest in Margie House continued
to grow as the plight of the many women trapped in the
cycle of drugs and incarceration was understood.
The purchase of a home in February 2004 was made
possible by God's provision in the form of many generous
donations. Margie House is located on Pittsburgh's North
Side. |
